marvel superheros fan art. hulk and wolverine .
two of my favourite marvel characters.
i had these two traditional sketches that i wanted to color/update digitally, i started the regular digital paint  then i thought why not go and try the now famous mixed technique by using 3d, photos and overpaint.
if i had to doit  i had to stay true as much as possible to  the initial sketches. it took some time to do that. even though it looks realistic this mixed technique is quite time-consuming. i dont know if its worth it .
i think regular digital painting is much  faster, at least for me.
anyway i've included the sketches as well so you can compare between the traditional and the digital.

i m not a superman fan, i didnt grew up reading superman comics, batman was more interesting to me.  darker and realistic.
i dont remember why i did this drawing. i guess to see if i can do it successfully.

here is the barabarian whom you know.
This may look traditional to you but it is definitely digital.
Truth be told I don’t like digital ink. it always looks awful and  lifeless even with manga studio.
still i tried some pshop inking brushes until I found some dry naturalistic brushes, customized them  a little bit and started drawing . and here is the result, it was not easy to  get that realistic brush look. With traditional media you don’t have to, it looks that way.
anyway I kept at it and Now I must confess I like it very much. In the near future I’ll try to make it as a full colored illustration.

some films-still studies. i m also a big  movie buff so  having to paint stills from my favourite movie is a double fun for me. besides it is a great way to learn.
i advise to start studying old black and white films first because they can teach you a lot about composition, values. lights and shadows, visual storytelling and so on ...
you should definitely look for masterpieces by master directors like kurosawa, fellini, hitchcock, chaplin, orson wells, ingmar bergman, john ford...

i think i will post in the future, if someone is interested, some tutos and demos showing how those masters used composition and lighting for storytelling...

movies suggestions  : sanjuro, 7 samurai, dolce vita, 8 and a half, psycho, night of the hunter wich is a favourite of mine; this movie is incredible, a masterpiece of composition, of lighting and visual storytelling. so check it out.

this 2 batman pieces were the first one i sunk my teeth on when i bought a wacom intuous.
in fact they were done traditionnally. so i updated/redraw them digitally while getting familiarised with the intuous tablet.
