some films-still studies. i m also a big movie buff so having to paint stills from my favourite movie is a double fun for me. besides it is a great way to learn.
i advise to start studying old black and white films first because they can teach you a lot about composition, values. lights and shadows, visual storytelling and so on ...
you should definitely look for masterpieces by master directors like kurosawa, fellini, hitchcock, chaplin, orson wells, ingmar bergman, john ford...
i think i will post in the future, if someone is interested, some tutos and demos showing how those masters used composition and lighting for storytelling...
movies suggestions : sanjuro, 7 samurai, dolce vita, 8 and a half, psycho, night of the hunter wich is a favourite of mine; this movie is incredible, a masterpiece of composition, of lighting and visual storytelling. so check it out.
